Standalone Mail Services
Our standalone services comprise:
- Email malware and spam filtering
- Web space
- Domain names
The detection and removal of malware sent by email can represent a significant cost to companies. We detect and remove such viruses before they reach you as a standard part of our service. We also filter and delete or tag suspected "spam" messages.
We prevent spam using a variety of techniques such as "grey listing" whereby mail received from a new source is temporarily rejected at first. Most spammers will move onto the next victim at this point. However, a mail server that is configured normally and not for sending mass email will retry the message after a few minutes. At this point, our system "white lists" the source.
Best results are obtained when our customer is running an SMTP mail server such as Microsoft Exchange. In addition, you will need a static IP address. With this configuration, we can scan and filter incoming mail and relay it onto your server. If mail arrives for an email address that is not valid on your mail system we will bounce it without attempting to send it to your server. We do this by checking the address with your mail server and keeping a cache of valid email addresses on our server.
Note that if your SMTP mail server is offline, perhaps because the server is not responding or your Internet connection is down, our system will accept your mail, store it and wait until your mail server comes back online before relaying it on. This has proved invaluable to our customers in emergency situations.
If you don't have an SMTP mail server, we can setup POP3 mailboxes on our system for your users and you can use a desktop application like Outlook to download your mail. This technique works for mobile phone access too.
In addition, some customers use mail servers like FTGate to download all mail from a "catch-all" or global POP3 mailbox on our system.
We provide up to 200 MB web space for you to create your own web site. Our sites support PHP scripts and MySQL databases.
